Mrs. Dowdy's Room
I began my teaching career in Belton ISD at Taylor Elementary as a 2nd grade teacher. After my husband and I moved to Gatesville, I began teaching at the Elementary school as a 2nd grade teacher. I taught 2nd grade for 3 years, then I moved to 3rd grade for 5 years. I absolutely loved working with the Elementary students and staff, but knew my calling as a teacher was to focus my efforts on our ELL population. In 2014 I changed positions and began teaching ESL classes. This is my 2nd year to teach ESL to an amazing group of students in 2nd through 12th grades. I absolutely love my job and helping our English Language Learners become proficient in the English Language.
I believe vocabulary acquisition is the most important aspect for an ELL to be successful in their classroom. I will work daily with my students to ensure they are gaining a vast academic vocabulary through daily practice and through their journaling.
One language sets you in a corridor for life.
Two languages open every door along the way.
