A Little About Me:

I began my teaching career in Belton ISD at Taylor Elementary as a 2nd grade teacher. After my husband and I moved to Gatesville, I began teaching at the Elementary school as a 2nd grade teacher. I taught 2nd grade for 3 years, then I moved to 3rd grade for 5 years. I absolutely loved working with the Elementary students and staff, but knew my calling as a teacher was to focus my efforts on our ELL population. In 2014 I changed positions and began teaching ESL classes. This is my 4th year to teach ESL to an amazing group of students in 2nd through 12th grades. I absolutely love my job and helping our English Language Learners become proficient in the English Language.

English as a Second Language

The goal of our ESL program is to enable English language learners to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the integrated use of second language methods.

English as a Second Language (ESL) is an intensive instructional program designed to develop proficiency in the listening, speaking, reading, and writing of the English language. Student eligibility for the program is determined through the administration of an English language proficiency test, and parent permission is required for entrance into the program. All instruction is provided in English and utilizes the TEKS and the ELPS for the cultivation of English language skills and the promotion of academic success in all grade level content areas.

ESL Program Benefits

  • Students are provided intensive English language instruction by teachers trained in recognizing and working with language differences
  • Uses the academic and cultural background of the student as a platform to provide the appropriate instruction in English
  • ESL instruction shall be commensurate with the student's level of English proficiency and academic achievement
  • An ESL Program provides intensive instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending English

One language sets you in a corridor for life.

Two languages open every door along the way.
